For those of you who are interested in getting a Dedicated server at Redglue but still have a few questions you need answered we hope you'll find everything you need here. If you don't please send your inquiries to our DEDA Specialist.
 
Can I have my own Name servers?
Yes! For a one time set up fee of just $299 you can have NS1/2.YOURDOMAIN.EXT so that the server appears to be hosted by you, instead of us. 

Can I have my own security certificate instead of using yours?
Yes! Redglue will purchase and install a Thawte or Verisign certificate for you at your request. Thawte certificates are currently $250-$400 and that includes the cost of installing and configuring it on your server. Verisign certificates currently cost $450-$950 for purchase and installation.


What if I want a different operating system?
You can have any OS installed on your server that you would like. If the OS you choose has licensing and registration requirements, you must purchase what is required or have Redglue purchase it on your behalf. 


What happens if I want or need other software installed on the server?
Redglue technicians will install many of the most popular third party software programs for free on DEDA servers! If the software requires a license you must of course provide that along the same guidelines as OS software. 


How does extra software or special operating systems get installed? Do you download what I need to the server?
Whenever you need Redglue technicians to install a different operating system, or special software, you must send both the original disk (CD) and the registration information to the Redglue main office so that we may have it on file in your records. Alternatively, you can request that Redglue purchase and register the software on your behalf. If Redglue is requested to purchase the software, we will quote you a total cost and wait for your approval of those charges before proceeding. 


What happens if I use more bandwidth than I'm supposed to, will I get surprise invoices or have my server shut down?
Redglue never gives surprise invoices! We also do not shut servers down for intense bandwidth usage. Instead, when you place your order, the DEDA size that you choose designates the amount of bandwidth you are allotted. Redglue then uses bandwidth restrictors to ensure that you do not go over your limit. So, instead of the site being shut down or generating surprise bills, your site access simply gets slower. If you notice that your site is extremely slow on a regular basis, you will then want to speak to a technician regarding your bandwidth usage and upgrade options. 


Do I get e-mail if my server goes down for any reason?
You do not normally get e-mail if the server goes down. This is because we have automated systems in place that page our technicians when there are problems. This automated system allows us to have your server back to normal in almost no time at all. If for some reason there is a severe problem with your server however, yes we do e-mail you to let you know what is going on and what steps are currently being taken. 


Can I add RAM to my existing server instead of upgrading to another?
Yes! Additional RAM is billed by 64MB increments. Each 64MB block is $25 setup and $20 per month. 


Can I add an additional hard drive, instead of upgrading my server?

Can I buy RAM or a hard drive and ship it to you for installation on my server?
No. For quality control purposes, we supply all hardware for the DEDA machines. 


What is BoB?
BoB is our nickname for the Redglue "Backup on Board" system. This is a customized backup solution offered for our DEDA clients instead of tape backup. BoB ensures that your whole server hard drive is backed up every 24 hours, and checks room on the drive every 48 hours. 


How do I maintain my server?
All DEDAs come with standard FTP. You can choose to have a third party administration tool such as PCAnywhere, Remotely Possible, or ManageWise installed as well. 


Do I have full control over my server?
Yes! You have "root" or "super user" access to your server at any time! 


How do I get my root password?
Simply call the main office 1-512-453-6933 - and speak to a technician to receive your login and password.
